DEATHKILLER
NEW ENGLAND IS SINKING
[4 OF 5]
DEATHKILLER

I thought I was going to hate this, but it's actually good. These guys have some loud driving Rock and Roll songs with a Hardcore influence crispy basslines and steady, methdodical drumming which sets the pace for the rest of the instruments. Not sure where the band is coming from with what kind of sound they are going for, but in a nutshell they sound like a tougher and louder Rise Against with a few breakdowns thrown in. What makes it work is that the singer has a good voice, though I wish they would have taken some of the distortion off of the shrieks of the singer. Sometimes the vocals don't work, for example ontrack 3, the stunted, slow nature of the song along with the vocal range the singer is trying to achieve don't mix well together. The instruments sound really good in the mix of this record but there's something that gives off the air of being overproduced a bit. No matter though, this is a pretty solid effort. It seems like these guys may have been in some previous bands, I'd like to know which ones especially the singer as it would be cool to hear his vocals in another context.

The Rock 'N' Roll hardcore thing has been done a bit and blazed by favs like The Bronx, but sometimes a band comes along and perfects a sound after the originators and it all comes into itself. Deathkiller could be as siginificant as Helmet. Let the good times fold already and I will roll with Deathkiller blasting.
