For The Proud play metal influenced hardcore with crunchy guitars, lots of kick-drum, and 2 vocalists. The growlier of the two vocalists (whatever that means) delivery was kind of rough at times sounding a little stunted, at other moments it works in the context of the song. Some of the lyrics were pretty decent, “Little Kids” is about friends who start fights and expect you to finish them, and “Darkened Hole” is about doing jail time and how shitty it is. On the other hand you have the abysmal “Martyrs of the Family” which takes every cliché “I will die for my crew” song you can think of and rolls them up into one big heap of unoriginal dreck. The song “Eddie H. Smokes Pot” seems to compare people who smoke pot to zombies, which I take issue with as I’m a marijuana enthusiast, but ironically this was one of the better tracks musically. Overall this has its moments but doesn’t have much staying power. If you’re a heavy hardcore completist you might dig it.
