The cassette demo was an art in its own right and not only
have we seen it all but vanish and die years ago with the cassette,
its departure was dear and it and what it represented is sorely missed and is
missing. The cassette demo is long dead, but the scariest part is that the demo
is too, no matter what the medium. The demo phase of
of a band is a first small step in making and recording music
and vital to the growth of the band and its existence and creative process.
Casette Demos. Cheap at home basement or project studio 4 track
recordings, better than half the shit I hear today on line, no real mix down
or post production, let alone mastering and the like that seems commonplace
these days thanks to all the available home computer gear you can buy.
But for real the demo is an absent stage in many bands
life and development today. A stage that if many had to endure like that of old would
probably never get through. It’s just to easy to put out an alright record to
soon and make a cd or post tracks on myspace. And on another note the CD demo just
never had the compact rawness and shite decibel range the classic cassette demo
tape posessed nor could it be slid in a pocket the same way, or even charged a
buck for as the CD burn is a joke compared to the real time labor the demo
cassette demanded. The casette Demo: real time recording in duplication/replication,
button cueing, copy machine expertise and origami discipline to fold the booklet
just right, binding info perfect and shit. Not to mention CD burns are so cheap to
make and there is something about them that its like,”I would never pay for one
as I did home boy a favor I accepted it as he burned it before he left his crib last minute anyway.”
This act of sheer impatience in making and creating music and of sad
desperation as bands and artists beg to have people hear what they have
going on way to early sends a message and if you can’t put any value on it how can you
expect anyone else to? You sold it out early bro. The day of the demo tape is dead and myspace may be filling the void the cd never did when it came to demos, but it truly lacks the

spirit of the classic cassette demo. Lastly there are bands with raw songs all over
the internet and myspace that aren’t even bands yet, posting songs and shit
as they hustle the web for a bassist or singer as they just can’t wait to make one.
Un...Real. Go write some songs and play some fucking shows and be a band before
you drop some shit on me and let this be a tribute to the dearly departed and sorely
missed cassette demo tape as I know it would have weeded out a whole bunch of c...rap.

You guys are on a tour you planned and you don't even know where to fucking park?

First day is a real city?

How you gonna be out there if you can't even hold on to you own stuff?

The message and the writing is on the wall - go home!

Are you all fucking kidding me with the paypal information for donations to help you guys out of your very unfortunate(our fortunate) turn of events out on the road?

Your band and music was burden enough, now your problems are ours?

No matter how much you collect from paypal you are still a pussy and a victim. No amount of donations can change what the perpetrators saw: weakness, confusion, naivety, and no consequences or retaliation by the likes of you.

The following was an actual email sent to me crying for help. We scrambled the names as those kids must have suffered enough...

We all know how hard it is for bands to stay on the road and bring us great music in the first place. It's horrible to hear when things like this happen. Last saturday after their show in _____, had their van and trailer stolen. Many of us know that bands literally live on the road. It's like having your house lifted out of the ground and the thieves towing it away using your car. Everyone was amazing banding together and helping out a few months back when Murder by Death was pretty much in the same predicament. I hope everyone shows the same kindness, generosity and help this amazing band. Their Pay Pal info and donation information can be found at the link below, any amount you can give will help them greatly.

Did she say "amazing band?"

GO HOME AND GET A JOB BITCHES!

Why on every remix record do they have to say "it's the remix"? Can't we tell it's the remix by the new beat, music, all the cameos, and the sheer length of the crap now? "Yo, It's the remix! Mary, Dark Child, Luda, Lil' John." No shit its the remix!

Thanks to some Atari's fan in Italy (I think, see below), we put up a link to the old Ataris piece and the one after that . We believe it is the band themselves who are upset 4 years later and emailing us through an alias. Don't worry whatever damage we did is well done and all the damage they did and have done to music, we apparently have to hear on a new record. So check the email below from the upset Ataris fan and in regard to his hoping we are going to delete the article - NOT BLOODY LIKELY!

Email from upset Ataris fan Mike :

Ehi guys rap is cool but I don't think Ataris suck..........they do their job as you do yours. You love muzik they love muzik, rock music it isn't a crime.........Everyone can say everything, you did it, I did it so have a nice day and peace!!!Maybe someone doesn't like your style and your way to dislike rock..........personally i dislike your gangsta style (it sucks!!) but it's your lifestyle and it's ok.......but rock music is not only people with long hair,a loud guitar and violence...
it's also feelings adn messages............so I hope you gonna delete that article.
