So for anyone who forgot the details of the coolest challenge ever, C...RAP, in association with Awake/Strong records and Define the Meaning magazine, gave bands the chance to submit cassette demos, one of the two real mediums that carried the music that started this culture, and upon submitting the demo said band would be entering a challenge. A battle of the bands/demos if you will to get on a comp, Music By People Like Us, with the likes of Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All, Madball, Walter Schreiffels, District 9, Deathcycle, Fahrenheit 451, Blacklisted, H2O and many more. And so we bring you some of the submissions that deserve real recognition for their effort in the challenge as we narrow in on the victor to be announced this Wednesday 3PM EST at C-RAP.com.
Sworn Against's demo came in a brown cardboard pyramid tagged with OK/HC for Oklahoma Hardcore as they are from Tulsa. Killing Kings' demo came in a real toolbox, like a real one you keep tools in, as they are blue collar, and for real there was a triangle in the toolbox. Face Punch's crude hand drawn cover brought a smile to my face and the Van Gogh type glossy art on the cover of Rhythm to the Madness wreaked of professionalism in the replication and showed real thought and investment. Dealing With It, Reality Check, From the Chest, Black Box of 2039, Bring Out Your Dead, and Off Balance all submitted solid demos with spirit and all 10 of these bands deserve to be recognized as the best of the challengers.
Good luck to the bands who are in the final review phase and enjoy some pictures of the demo submissions while we all wait for the results,
