AC/DC Roseland Ballroom - Tuesday, March 11 2003

Heshers, Metalheads, Bikers, Hardcore kids, punks, old, young. This was the scene on the evening of March 11 at the Roseland Ballroom for the unparalleled, never duplicated AC/DC. It was quite the scene. The ticket warned that if you were not inside the club by 8 pm you would be denied admission. This caused the place to be packed early in the evening as well as putting the crowd in the precarious position of having to endure the sounds (and I use that term loosely), of Vendetta Red.

Vendetta Red’s presence at this show was absolutely due to either a favor owed or the loss of a bet. They are obviously part of the burgeoning, played out, “screamo” scene. I tend to like some bands in this genre but these guys were fucking putrid. The singer engaged in several Daltrey/Plant style stage maneuvers. His voice was incredibly annoying and pitchy. It didn’t help that they were opening up for one of the greatest bands in history. Their game could’ve been as tight as Jordan at the ’92 finals and it still wouldn’t have mattered. I don’t think I’d like this band even if they were playing CB’s.

Now let me tell you, I’ve never been a huge fan of AC/DC. I’ve always loved the songs but never to the point of fanaticism. That was until this show. HOLY FUCKING SHIT! This band blew Roseland to pieces. Show some respect! These guys are OG’s in this game. They were tight as hell and Brian Johnson’s (and of course Angus’) stage presence made for an incredible show, not to mention the F’N songs. After some thought I came to the conclusion that I had to print the entire set list in order to do this review justice. It went like this…

Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be…Back in Black -
- Stiff Upper Lip - - Gone Shootin -
- Thunderstruck - - Rock And Roll Damnation -
- What's Next To The Moon - - Hard As A Rock -
- The Jack - - If You Want Blood -
- Hells Bells - - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap -
- Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution - - Shoot To Thrill -
- T.N.T. - - Highway To Hell -
- Whole Lotta Rosie - - You Shook Me All Night Long -

Though a little scaled down from their usual Arena Rock proportions, they played for a good hour and a half. It had to be one of the best shows I have ever seen. Near their fifties and still able to rock the house.

I felt like I was wasted singing Hell’s Bell’s at the top of my lungs at some dirty ass bar. Hmmmm, maybe I was? NICE!!!!
