It
seems that every time I find myself at CB’s I wind up
hating it more. The show was sold out and packed. Once again
I made the mistake of getting to the show too damn early.
Add the no re-admission policy and our dear mayor’s
Draconian no smoking rule and you’ve got on unhappy
mahfuka on your hands. Don’t get me wrong I like the
fact that I don’t have to scrub my clothes and my body
down after going to a show but for God’s sake let me
go outside for a breather.
Locked
In A Vacancy was up first. Well, not really first. I missed
the first band due to the fact that I needed a stoge. They
sort of remind me of all those Death Metal bands I would see
in the Bronx but way better. They seem to be on every freakin
show these days but his was my first exposure to them. They
weren’t bad at all. Lots of pure old-school metal sounds,
double bass drumming which I am a sucker for, combined with
the typical growling and screaming that we’ve gotten
used to hearing in today’s crop of Metal bands. I enjoyed
the band for about 4-5 songs. They soon became pretty redundant.
I enjoyed it enough that I would definitely go check them
out again. I hear the play a cover of Iron Maiden’s,
“The Trooper.” That, I would love to hear.
Most Precious
jumped on to a packed house. I was very curious to hear what
the band would sound like with the new singer (Rob formerly
of One King Down). Let me tell you there was something definitely
lacking in the songs. By far the most energetic and tight
that I’ve seen them in years but there was a lack of
ferociousness in the vocals that left the set feeling a little
empty. Even the Indecision cover of “Hallowed Be Thy
Name” left much to be desired. I dig this band and I’m
hoping Rob gets his vocal shit together and brings it the
next time. Oh well.
After
a short musical interlude compliments of the sound guy Candiria
came out roaring. This band cheated death and has lived to
blown the shit up once again. CB’s exploded as they
worked through their set. Special guest Jorge, of Merauder
fame, joined the band for “Mathematics.” The crowd
calmed a bit as they busted a sweet jazz jam. But once, again
they brought the ruckus to a frenzied pitch as they continued
through the set. They even blessed us with a new song, I believe,
named “Blood.”
Overall,
Candiria made the evening for me, and it was great to have
them back. If you haven’t had the pleasure to catch
Candiria in the past do yourself a favor and open your mind
to this gem.
