Sundays,
once a month, are local Chicago band shows, which all these
bands are and I guess this Sunday was. To note is that 800
kids came out at 6PM sharp, in temperatures well below zero,
in T’s and other light attire, obviously unwilling to
be strapped with big heavy coats and the responsibility that
goes with a coat that would have any effect on these winter
windy city temps. I love it; kids would rather freeze and
be ill ‘til the next show, the next week, and Mac up
in that bitch than have to drag a coat around. 800 are no
joke and neither was the line up.
Much the
Same: sorry I got in late and was at the bar getting my drink.
I caught the last song or 2. It was aiight. I don’t
mean to be mean, but I feel like certain veins or music are
more than covered and you have to be great to rise out of
that. That’s heavy for 2 songs I know. I will see them
again and listen harder.
504
Plan: Obviously responsible for a lot of the draw,
especially the guys, I was anxious to see a band that’s
name has continued to turn up with great frequency since I
moved to Chicago. They were of the sound that I like these
days that I don’t want to classify to hard, because
that’s what’s cool about it. Their look does not
lead you to mentally picture what you are about to hear. I
didn’t find the songs or lyrics predictable and there
are some real technical complexities to the music. 504 Plan
seemed intelligent and really broke it down at some parts;
they know dynamics. At one point, some dudes near me yelled
‘Slayer!’…that never gets old does it? I
didn’t even know kids today necessarily knew who they
were; 504 Plan busted into Reign in Blood. I am off to see
them now, a week later to get some new material they have
worked on and I am excited to see them again.
Fall
Out Boy: good show, more rock and less pop than the
last time I saw them. The girls like these young lads. I don’t
know if I do, but they were great live this day. I appreciated
it.
