Roskilde
Festival 2003
There
are funny differences around the world that you notice
at shows and or music festivals. In Miami, I have been
to a show where they throw their plastic beer bottles
and full cups of beer as a sign of affection for the
band performing. And now I have been to Roskilde
Festival, where 100k Scandinavians and Germans
assemble for 5 days of non-stop music on 10 stages.
And all I know is that funny things come down through
history and through people that are evident in the way
people party and rock. I witnessed 100K people set up
for Metallica like a battlefield out of “Braveheart.”
The flags went up on 30’ fishing rods that we
would have never gotten by security in the U.S., and
were held high in the sun at 10:30 PM where Metallica
tore into Battery, Master of Puppets, Harvester of Sorrow,
then, Sanitarium in Lars’ homeland. 100k people
from I don’t know how many countries singing “Seek
and Destroy” at midnight. It was awesome! Lars
even broke into some Danish for the natives and believe
it or not he speaks his native perfectly without a hint
of that shitty Californian accent we have come to hate
since that Napster back-stabbing when he wouldn’t
shut the fuck up. So in all the fun I had, I realized
3 things:
1.
There is White Trash all over the world.
2. No matter what show you go to for 5 days you cannot
keep your feet clean in sandals or flips flops, which
further helps the Dirty White in you come out.
3. The problem with the new Metallica record is you
just can’t come out with Battery, Master, Harvester,
and Sanitarium.
Skål!
